MORJIM
Discover Morjim, Goa
Turtles, sunsets and a long, quiet beach on the north bank of the Chapora River.
Morjim is a coastal village in the Pernem taluka of North Goa, on the north bank of the Chapora River where it meets the Arabian Sea. It is best known for its wide, clean beach, the endangered Olive Ridley turtles that nest here each winter, and a relaxed pace that feels a world away from Baga and Calangute.
Why visit Morjim
Morjim is where travellers come to slow down. The beach is long and flat, the water is usually calm in season, and the sunsets are some of the best in Goa. Beach shacks and restaurants line parts of the shore, yet there is always space to find a quiet stretch of sand.
A village with character
Away from the beach, Morjim is still a working Goan village of fishing families, coconut palms, paddy fields and small chapels and temples. The Lobo family, who run Goan Cafe N Resort, have lived and fished here for generations.

Turtles and birds
Morjim is one of Goa’s designated Olive Ridley turtle nesting beaches, protected by the Forest Department. The Chapora estuary also attracts gulls, terns, plovers and other migratory birds in winter, making it a quiet favourite for birdwatchers. Read about the turtles.
“Little Russia”
Morjim became popular with Russian travellers in the 2000s, earning the nickname “Little Russia”. You will still see Russian menus and signs, but today visitors come from all over India and the world.
